TI Film Evening – Stoneleigh on Making Sense of the Financial Crisis in the Era of Peak Oil

Steve Marsden did a great job organising a showing of the slides and presentation by Stoneleigh of The Automatic Earth, which had a great impact on the Transition meeting earlier in the year.

Despite pouring rain at the start we had a really good turnout for this even.In the audience of about 30 people from Suffolk & beyond we were lucky enough to have two people that had studied economics, who could add insight into the issues presented by Stoneleigh.

The theme of the talk is a stark warning of looming economic crisis. In the discussion that followed we looked at this, but came ot the conclusion that her prognosis seemed a bit too extreme. In Transition we’re doing the right things to mitigate such crises, by relocalising food, and looking at solutions for sustainable energy & transport.

Steve summing up afterwards. He finds more optimistic nuggets each time he views this!

After the film we adjourned to the Dove for some drinks and more talk, fortunately the rain had stopped by then!
