Gemma 759@http://www.transitionipswich.org.uk/forum/
Hey all

Steve and I have been talking to Josiah from Nacton Home Farm to arrange a farm tour for us.

It was originally suggested that we have a 'publicized/ booked in advance and exclusively for members of Transition Ipswich' tour slot during their Open Farm Sunday in June, but there was concern that this wouldn't be the right environment in which to have a proper meeting; ask particular questions; work out potential collaborations; and also that it's too far away. That doesn't mean it's off the cards though - it can be an additional later event.

It is possible for a small group of us - as stated in Josiah's email below; a Land Rover-ful - to go along sooner, mid-April onwards, on a weekday. Having it on a weekend would mean not meeting the growers as they work exhaustive hours in the week.

What dates can people do? This is my first foray into Doodle-world!

http://www.doodle.com/ieb5ggrba8vwfmef

If there are two Land Rover-fuls i'll get back to Josiah and ask him if that's accomodatable.

x

Sunshine! Why am i not cycling to each of your houses with this missive as a telegram. Oh computers... :-(

Gemma Sayers
East of England Food Co-ops Adviser

gemma@sustainweb.org
07971863586

http://www.foodcoops.org

-------- Original Message --------
From: Josiah Meldrum <josiah@provenance.co>
Date: Fri, 18 Mar 2011 20:42:50 +0000

Hi Both,

As far as Home Farm goes, I think Open Farm Sunday is probably the best
opportunity to get a larger group round the farm at a time of year when
there is a bit to see. We can tailor a tour to meet Transition Ipswich's needs. If we do anything sooner I think it should be a smaller more focused group - a Land Rover full (5 or 6) from your food group. Personally I'm more than happy to do something at the weekend (Sunday is best), but it's unlikely that you'd be able to meet Gavin or many of the rest of the team on a Sunday.

Andrew would undoubtedly want to meet you if I asked him, but he works
such long hours that I'd be very reluctant to take up his time over the
weekend. A week day would be better, but I do know a fair amount about
the farm operation and could probably give a fairly complete tour from
an information perspective - a few of you could then come back and see
Andrew one weekday afternoon with more questions/ideas.

I've attached the Home Farm Leaf and Organic availability sheets for
your interest. The tables are based on the crop programe... but of
course things probably won't work out exactly as indicated. As far as
volumes are concerned most of the more specialist crops are in smaller
blocks - starting with golden beet, red beet and swede at less than or
slightly over .25 acre through fennel on a couple of acres up to PSB on
4 or 5 acres. The big scale veg (cabbage, cauli, onions and spuds) are
in blocks starting at about 10 acres.

Best wishes,

Josiah
___________________

Josiah Meldrum
Tel: 07976 941 613
Fax: 0871 266 8711
Skype: josiah_meldrum
Email: Josiah@provenance.co <mailto:Josiah@provenance.co>
(The above is a new email address - my other and previous email
addresses all still work)

Provenance | Growing Sustainability | provenance.co <http://provenance.co>

(Registered as Provenance Supply Chain Management LLP, Holly Farm,
Bressingham, Diss, IP22 2BG; Partnership number OC348156.
